KESSENT® Me

KESSENT Me offers ruminant-protected Methionine for dairy and meat producers who demand precision in their feed formulations and operational efficiency and sustainability. The encapsulation and core technology in KESSENT Me are proven to provide the best source of metabolizable Methionine for ruminants.

KESSENT Me's unique formulation delivers the highest amount of rumen-protected Methionine per kg product. This is possible to reduce the mean rumen retention time (MRT) or increase the passage rate in the rumen by varying the size and specific gravity of particles. This increases the rumen escape protein proportion of concentrate feeds and will improve the effectiveness of industrial processes. A Latin square experiment (Dufreneix et al., 2019) looked at the combined effect of size and specific gravity on the MRT of particles without interactions with microbial fermentation. The study shows the importance of specific gravity and particle size of rumen-protected amino acids. The carefully designed particle size and unique specific gravity maximize the amount of Methionine that will escape rumination.

  • The optimal particle size and specific gravity of KESSENT allow it to move through the rumen rapidly. This reduces the physical abrasion and microbial degradation in the rumen, increasing Methionine intestinal bioavailability.
  • KESSENT Me has a specific gravity of 1.21, ensuring a rapid escape from the rumen. In addition, 95% of the particle size is lower than 2.2 mm, providing a fast exit into the abomasum.      
  • The standard deviation and coefficient of variation for both the specific gravity and the particle size are lower than any other rumen-protected Methionine available on the market. 
  • Together with a specific and unique step in the production process, called spheronification, these properties allow for greater homogeneity and product stability under actual field conditions.

  • Improves R.O.I and net income in field conditions: this positive effect is much stronger by starting the feeding of rumen protected Methionine during close-up period.

KESSENT® MF

The importance of methionine analogs for monogastric and ruminants depends on their molecular structure and their mode of action within the animal. The hydroxy analog of methionine is the most commonly fed Met analog to poultry, pigs, and ruminants. However, the hydroxy analogs of methionine are not widely used in ruminants as it is highly degraded in the rumen by microorganisms and less bioavailable to the animals. Isopropyl ester of the hydroxy analog of methionine is the only ruminant specific methionine analog in the market which can provide up to 50 % bioavailability of methionine to ruminants.

KESSENT MF provides the highest concentration of HMBi for industrial use. It is easily handled, free-flowing, stable when pelletized, and could be automatically dosed. KESSENT MF has been extensively field-tested and supported through Kemin's Lifelong Learning program.

  • Research has shown that KESSENT MF is highly cost-effective compared to other competitor products.

  • The active ingredient in KESSENT MF is 2-Hydroxy-4-Methylthio-Butanoic Isopropyl ester (HMBi). It is an isopropyl ester of hydroxy analog of Methionine. Kemin uses a novel, cost-effective, and proprietary synthetic pathway to produce HMBi. Our novel synthesis pathway generates HMBi from cost-effective and straightforward raw materials gently and cleanly. In addition, this new pathway generates less waste and is environmentally friendly.
  • KESSENT MF is manufactured in three different versions: Dry, Liquid, and Arome Dry. KESSENT MF Dry avoids the need to work with a liquid product. The Arome Dry version provides additional comfort by masking the typical smell associated with HMBi.
