KESSENT® M

KESSENT M offers ruminant-protected Methionine for dairy and meat producers who demand precision in their feed formulations and operational efficiency and sustainability. The encapsulation and core technology in KESSENT M are proven to provide the best source of metabolizable Methionine for ruminants.

KESSENT M's unique formulation delivers the highest amount of rumen-protected Methionine per kg of product. This is possible reducing the mean rumen retention time (MRT) or increase the passage rate in the rumen by varying the size and specific gravity of particles. This increases the rumen escape protein proportion of concentrate feeds and will improve the effectiveness of industrial processes. A Latin square experiment (Dufreneix et al., 2019) looked at the combined effect of size and specific gravity on the MRT of particles without interactions with microbial fermentations. The study shows the importance of specific gravity and particle size of rumen protected amino acids. The carefully designed particle size and unique specific gravity maximize the amount of Methionine that will escape rumination.

  • The optimal particle size and specific gravity of KESSENT allow it to move through the rumen rapidly. This reduces the physical abrasion and microbial degradation in the rumen, increasing Methionine intestinal bioavailability.
  • KESSENT M has a specific gravity of 1.21, ensuring a rapid escape from the rumen. In addition, 95% of the particle size is lower than 2.2 mm, providing a fast exit into the abomasum.
  • The standard deviation and coefficient of variation for both the specific gravity and the particle size are lower than any other rumen-protected Methionine available on the market.
  • Together with a specific and unique step in the production process, called spheronification, these properties allow for greater homogeneity and product stability under actual field conditions.

  • Improves R.O.I and net income in field conditions: this positive effect is much stronger by starting the feeding of rumen protected Methionine during close-up period.
  • Improves the utilization efficiency of metabolizable protein, providing an opportunity to formulate diets with lower crude protein content without compromising the yield of milk and milk components.
  • Enhances productivity performance, improving milk production and milk protein synthesis.
  • Decreases the incidence of metabolic disorders.
  • Plays a major role in the synthesis of apoprotein B, which is an essential component needed for the synthesis and secretion of very low-density lipoprotein, responsible for exporting triglycerides from the liver to peripheral tissues.
  • Improves the liver function and the antioxidant precursor synthesis, better health status and immunometabolism.
  • Being the precursor of carnitine, the transport vehicle to carry long chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for ß-Oxidation.
  • Improves dairy herd fertility.
  • Increases casein content resulting in high cheese production profitability.

When developing our KESSENT technology, a 5-step process known as Process for Rumen-Protected Amino Acids Validation Criteria was used.

The 5-step process included laboratory research, animal research in different research centers, live plasma-free amino acid dose-response trials, stability stress trials, and production response trials in dairy and beef farms. These studies have proven greater Methionine bioavailability provided by KESSENT than other rumen-protected Methionine products.

KESSENT M provides a significant improvement over the rest of RP Methionine competitors in terms of Met available per g of product based on the latest studies and information available.

KESSENT® MF

The importance of methionine analogs for monogastric and ruminants depends on their molecular structure and their mode of action within the animal. The hydroxy analog of methionine is the most commonly fed Met analog to poultry, pigs, and ruminants. However, the hydroxy analogs of methionine are not widely used in ruminants as it is highly degraded in the rumen by microorganisms and less bioavailable to the animals. Isopropyl ester of the hydroxy analog of methionine is the only ruminant specific methionine analog in the market which can provide up to 50 % bioavailability of methionine to ruminants.

KESSENT MF provides the highest concentration of HMBi for industrial use. It is easily handled, free-flowing, stable when pelletized, and could be automatically dosed. KESSENT MF has been extensively field-tested and supported through Kemin's Lifelong Learning program.

  • Research has shown that KESSENT MF is highly cost-effective compared to other competitor products.
  • KESSENT MF ensures the highest concentration of post-rumen bioavailable Methionine HMBi per gram of product.
  • The active ingredient in KESSENT MF is 2-Hydroxy-4-Methylthio-Butanoic Isopropyl ester (HMBi). It is an isopropyl ester of hydroxy analog of Methionine. Kemin uses a novel, cost-effective, and proprietary synthetic pathway to produce HMBi. Our novel synthesis pathway generates HMBi from cost-effective and straightforward raw materials gently and cleanly. In addition, this new pathway generates less waste and is environmentally friendly.
  • KESSENT MF is manufactured in three different versions: Dry, Liquid, and Arome Dry. KESSENT MF Dry avoids the need to work with a liquid product. The Arome Dry version provides additional comfort by masking the typical smell associated with HMBi.

Our 5-step Process for Rumen-Protected Amino Acids Validation Criteria ensures the most reliable information about methionine supplementation for ruminants. In addition, the KESSENT MF supplement is backed by well-designed in-vitro and in-vivo experiments which accurately describe the products' efficacy.

Our Product Application Department provides applications systems for KESSENT MF Liquid. KAS designs, manufactures, and tests all application systems in Belgium. This ensures the delivery of high-quality systems with a strong focus on reliability, precision, and worker safety.
