Balancing Microbiome, Easing Inflammation

Necrotic Enteritis (NE), primarily caused by Clostridium perfringens, has long been recognized as a major gut health challenge in poultry, typically resulting in subclinical losses. However, the current landscape is increasingly complicated by a rise in gut stressors that extend beyond NE, leading to widespread chronic intestinal inflammation (CII). This low-grade, persistent inflammation imposes an additional economic burden, primarily due to increased nutrient demands and compromised feed efficiency. Research indicates that inflamed intestines can result in a daily loss of 0.27g of ideal protein per bird, translating to approximately 60g of feed loss per broiler over its lifecycle.

Chronic inflammation weakens gut integrity, exacerbates dysbacteriosis, facilitates pathogen translocation, and induces oxidative stress, further impairing immune function. The root cause lies in “gut stressors”—factors that damage intestinal tissue and act as both predisposing agents for NE and direct contributors to inflammation. These stressors can be categorized as specific (e.g., pathogens, toxins) or non-specific (e.g., environmental, nutritional, or management-related). Addressing these multifactorial challenges requires a holistic approach to gut health management, emphasizing prevention, early detection, and targeted nutritional and environmental interventions.

KURACO™ partners in your gut health management journey by successfully countering necrotic enteritis and simultaneously reducing the impact of non-specific factors by exerting an anti- inflammatory action.
