Little Change – BIG Difference

Intestinal health management is the key for superior performance of poultry. One of the major issues faced in modern day broiler production in Southeast Asia is necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens. This economically significant disease in broilers causes severe economic losses. Recent surveys have reported the presence of the disease in more than 90% of farms.

In an attempt to develop an active microbial strain to inhibit Clostridium perfringens, Kemin formulated CLOSTAT. This proprietary formula contains a naturally occurring strain of Bacillus subtilis PB6 isolated from the intestinal tract of a healthy chicken. Bacillus subtilis PB6 is able to form spores, providing an advantage during pellet formation, which is widely used for broiler feed production.

Once in the intestine, Bacillus subtilis PB6, releases antimicrobial substances – surfactant A and surfactant B – which inhibits Clostridium perfringens (Source: Internal Kemin Document BB-04-00187). It also secretes certain bifidogenic compounds to support the growth of other commensals, such as Lactobacillus spp and Bifidobacterium spp. Bacillus subtilis PB6 is also proven to improve the immunity of the birds by improving phagocytosis index (Source: Kemin Internal Document BB-05-00034).

Introducing CLOSTAT into your poultry diet from the very first day will provide these benefits and lead to superior performance of birds, including better body weight and feed conversion ratio.

The efficacy of the CLOSTAT has been proven by various trials in South Asia and different parts of the world. Previously, the gastrointestinal health of animals raised for food relied very heavily on the use of antibiotics and other drugs. More recently, however, the use of probiotics in feed represents a breakthrough in the total nutrition based approach to animal health. By maintaining a state of equilibrium in the gastrointestinal tract, active beneficial strains such as Bacillus subtilis PB6 (CLOSTAT) serve to improve the growth rate and feed use of poultry.
