Feed Sanitiser to Improve the Feed

Safe Feed Matters

In today's modern livestock farming, especially with increasing transboundary infectious diseases that could impact livestock production, having a robust biosecurity program plays a critical role in ensuring healthy animals and safe food production.

Feed and feed ingredients can carry pathogens that are detrimental to the animals' health and welfare. However, in biosecurity planning, the role of feed can be often overlooked. As animals are exposed to feed multiple times each day, if pathogens enter the feed supply chain, the chances of infections are high.

Breaches in biosecurity can impact food safety, which would deteriorate consumers' trust, ultimately leading to the loss of demand and revenue.

Safe Feed Plays a Critical Role in Food Safety

Contaminated feed transmits the pathogens such as Salmonella and E. coli to the animals and the entire food chain.

Benefits of Sal CURB™

  • Improve feed hygiene and protect the feedstuffs from pathogen contamination and recontamination in the feed to farm chain.
  • Safeguard animals from pathogens infection resulted from consuming contaminated feedstuff and support animal health development.
  • Helps in reducing the horizontal transmission of pathogens through the feed.
  • Minimizes the negative effect of heat treatment, which often causes nutrients and vitamins losses in feed.

Salmonella Control Points

Control of Salmonella in Raw Feed Materials

Raw feed materials, such as meat and bone meal and fish meal are the most frequent sources of Salmonella. Treating raw feed materials with Sal CURB™ as early as possible in the feed chain is crucial to minimize and control Salmonella contamination in the subsequent stages of feed production.

Control of Salmonella in Compound Feed

Re-contamination of compound feed by Salmonella is possible even though the feed has undergone heat treatment. Heat treatment has no residual benefit. In contrast, the use of Sal CURB™ provides a long lasting protection and prevent the feed from re-contamination.

Control of Salmonella in Feed Mill Equipment and Facilities

Surveys have shown high Salmonella prevalence detected in dust samples from the pre-heat and post-heat areas of the mill, as well as inside the pellet cooling systems. Regular cleaning and sanitizing of the feed mill equipment and facilities is critical to control cross-contamination of Salmonella.

Control of Salmonella in Feed Transport Vehicles

Feed can be contaminated with Salmonella if the storage compartments of the transport vehicles are not kept clean. It is important to regularly sanitize the inner storage compartments to deactivate Salmonella, ensuring they are in a hygienic state.
