Special Needs of Piglets
Neonatal piglets have a physiologically immature gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, pre-weaning diets are designed to fit the particular needs of pre-weaning piglets. It is critical that these diets are based on highly digestible and palatable ingredients. ButiPEARL™ plays an important role as well, as butyric acid is the preferred energy source for epithelial cells of the intestine. This promotes villi growth and improves nutrient absorption.
Performance Data in Piglets
A trial was conducted using 28-days old weaned piglets. The animal performance parameters measured were:
- Final weight gain
- Feed conversion ratio (FCR)
- Average daily gain (ADG)
Figure 1: Weight gain of piglets after 6 weeks of being fed a diet containing 2 different inclusion rates of ButiPEARL™ and compared with piglets fed the same diet without ButiPEARL™.
Application of ButiPEARL™ in piglet diet at 500g/MT of feed demonstrated the greatest animal performance.
Supplementing ButiPEARL™ to weaning piglets showed numerical improvement in final weight gain, average daily gain in weight and feed conversion ratio.
