The Science Behind KemTRACE® Chromium

Chromium Mode of Action

Chromium supplementation improves glucose utilization in animals. By enhancing the availability of glucose, the animal has more energy to help with maintenance, reproduction, growth performance and immunity.

Kemin understands the science behind chromium. Chromium mobilizes more blood glucose into tissue, allowing for improved performance based on the animal's hierarchy of needs. As the primary source of energy for cells, glucose is critical to an animal’s performance and is used in several key metabolic functions.

Chromium and Stress

When livestock and poultry are exposed to environmental or disease stressors, a stress hormone called cortisol or corticosterone is released. This release of cortisol or corticosterone alters how nutrients are utilized by the animal. During periods of stress, nutrients are re-allocated from growth toward minimizing the stress being experienced by the animal. When nutrients are siphoned away from growth in this way, performance can be negatively impacted.

Chromium supplementation has been shown to decrease the levels of cortisol and corticosterone in the blood, thereby alleviating the negative effects of stress on growth and performance to allow the animal to reach its full genetic potential.1-4

Bioavailability Matters When Selecting Minerals

The chemical form of a nutrient impacts the degree to which it can be absorbed and utilized to support important metabolic processes within an animal. In order for an animal to absorb minerals – such as chromium – the mineral must either solubilize or dissociate in the digestive system of the animal. In this way, solubility is a key indicator of bioavailability and plays a vital role in the efficacy of a product. Superior bioavailability ensures the nutrient is available in a form the animal can use for optimal nutritional benefits.

KemTRACE® Chromium is the Gold Standard

KemTRACE® Chromium – the first product of its kind on the market – is a water soluble, highly bioavailable, organic source of chromium that helps improve glucose utilization and reduce the negative impacts of stress for increased cellular energy and function. This results in improved animal maintenance, reproduction, growth and immunity. KemTRACE Chromium has been fed to millions of animals around the globe since its introduction in 2000. It is registered in more than 35 countries worldwide.
