KEEPER® - Sodium Chlorite Solutions

Antimicrobial Control in Food Processing

KEEPER® is a line of stabilized sodium chlorite solutions engineered by Kemin Bio Solutions to deliver flexible, effective, and efficient antimicrobial control across food processing environments. Designed for activation with a GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) food-grade acid, KEEPER forms a powerful oxidative solution effective against common pathogens and spoilage organisms—helping processors improve sanitation outcomes and meet food safety standards.

KEEPER

Available in multiple concentrations and packaging formats, KEEPER allows facilities of all sizes to tailor sanitation protocols to their unique needs. Whether used in post-harvest produce, poultry, red meat, or seafood operations, KEEPER offers lasting antimicrobial protection, improved handling safety, and broad application versatility.

Mode of Action

Activated sodium chlorite (ASC) works through a powerful oxidative process that begins when sodium chlorite is acidified to form chlorous acid the primary antimicrobial agent. Chlorous acid disrupts microbial membranes, proteins, and enzymes, interfering with vital cellular functions and resulting in effective microbial control.1 In addition, small amounts of chlorine dioxide are generated in situ, further enhancing antimicrobial performance. ASC initiates the oxidative chain reaction that drives effective sanitation.2

Validated Efficacy and Pathogen Reduction

KEEPER Efficacy Web V3

Broad-Spectrum Pathogen Reduction: KEEPER significantly reduces E. coli O157:H7, Listeria, Salmonella, and Campylobacter under validated application conditions, providing fast, broad-spectrum protection for your operation.3,4,5,6

Keeper E. Coli

Comparative Efficacy at Lower Concentrations: KEEPER achieves a 99.999% reduction of E. coli O157:H7 at significantly lower concentrations than other common biocides—demonstrating superior efficacy with less chemical input.4
