We are dedicated to being a responsible ingredient manufacturer across our ingredient supply chain, from raw material to finished ingredient.

Because Kemin is committed to the highest standards of raw material testing, above and beyond any required compliance or regulatory standard, we made a multimillion-dollar investment in our own independent testing laboratory.

As part of Kemin’s commitment to continuous improvement, we have established quality control protocols for all analyses, and we conduct internal audits of our facilities and systems on a frequent basis as a part of our commitment to continuous improvement.

To produce more than 500 specialty ingredients, we maintain top-of-the-line manufacturing facilities worldwide, each operating under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Our North America manufacturing facilities and certifications include:

  • Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 and International Safe Feed/Safe Food (FAMI-QS) certified animal nutrition and health and pet food ingredient manufacturing facility in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A.
  • FSSC 22000 certified food technologies manufacturing facility in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A.
  • FSSC 22000 and FAMI-QS certified rosemary extract manufacturing facility in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A.
  • ISO 9001:2008 certified pet food and rendering technologies ingredient manufacturing facilities in Verona and Sarcoxie, Missouri, U.S.A.
  • Kemin facilities within the United States observe all applicable FDA regulations and/or United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Ingredient Supplier with Customer Lab Services

To ensure the success of our customers and, ultimately, the success of our products, our Customer Lab Services (CLS) team offers tailored analytical, shelf-life, sensory, chemistry and microbiology testing services. Our CLS team also helps customers identify the most efficient application rate and application point to ensure they are receiving the maximum value from our products.

Our industry-leading throughput and turnaround times, as well as our validated equipment and methods, allow Kemin to help customers meet their business goals. Our Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A. CLS laboratory for pet food and rendering technologies has been ISO 17025 accredited since 2013. The CLS lab is accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation A2LA, certificate number 3528.01.

Because every customer and production facility is unique, we provide custom-made equipment solutions through a dedicated Kemin Application Solutions team that allows our customers to get the most out of the Kemin products they purchase.

Liquid application systems can help lower the cost of application, improve the technical efficacy and reduce variability and application errors— all of which requires a tailored application system.

Lab Tech

Kemin Application Solutions’ Customer Support Includes:

  • Selecting, calibrating and installing application equipment at pet food and rendering facilities
  • Training production staff on proper use of equipment and ingredients
  • Determining application rates, locations for dosing and processes
  • Providing in-house design, assembly and testing of equipment
  • Guiding equipment start, training of customer staff and ongoing equipment maintenance
  • Assisting with troubleshooting for application system



The Kemin Application Solutions team includes experienced engineers and technicians that help install, maintain and optimize customer application equipment to ensure our ingredients are meeting customers’ performance goals. Understanding that every production facility is different and every customer has unique goals, our engineers and technical experts work closely with each Kemin customer to develop tailor-made application solutions and monitor processes.

This support includes Kemin experts who host workshops and trainings to share application best practices and insights with customers. Kemin engineers help customers choose the right application equipment; support field trials; provide ideas on application rates, locations and process developments; complete comprehensive site visits; quickly respond to questions following installation; and more. Before designing and installing a full application system, run pilot trials with mobile units to ensure the application will work well in the customer’s facility. Once an application system has been installed, the Kemin Application Solutions team continues to support customers with system service and maintenance from local field engineers stationed around the globe.

Today, Kemin’s application systems apply our products in the production process of feed mills, crushing facilities, rendering facilities, pet food facilities and more. To help offer new digital technologies to the animal nutrition professionals who use our systems, we have created KEMINCONNECT™.

KEMINCONNECTis our newest digital application management platform that provides customers with analytical insights to make data-driven decisions that optimize processes and operations. Created by Kemin specifically for our customers, KEMINCONNECT is tailormade to integrate our application system into customers’ existing production processes.

With KEMINCONNECT™, we are confident that customers will enjoy increased agility and reactivity from our support teams, and operators will gain additional insights on how to improve their processes and application systems.

How Does KEMINCONNECT™ Serve Customers?

We start by understanding what data to collect and how to collect it. Depending on the customer’s needs, the data inputs can come from the Kemin application system or a variety of sensors installed in the customer’s factory. The sensor market is developing quickly, so the number of applications is expanding enormously. 

The sensor data, together with other relevant process parameters, is securely transferred via an industrial Internet of Things (IoT) gateway that pushes the data into the KEMINCONNECT cloud. The information is automatically validated, aggregated and safely stored in the cloud to ensure customers can access real-time data from multiple applications at various locations for insights and system alerts. All KEMINCONNECT data is secure and treated with integrity; the platform was developed with the highest level of end-to-end security in mind to ensure customers’ data is safely stored. 

KEMINCONNECT offers knowledge that enables customers to better understand how our liquid programme benefits the production process through data-driven decision-making. 

KEMINCONNECT™ Digital Platform

The KEMINCONNECTdigital platform pioneers a range of extended services within the industry and supports customers with three key pillars, each with a different objective and level of complexity.

Monitoring focuses on gathering and analyzing collected data from remote locations. Based on the collected data, Kemin optimizes customers’ inventory, supply chain and service levels to decrease operating costs and help improve customers’ overall data management experience.

Assisting describes the data collected from different touchpoints by aggregating and analyzing it for new process insights, allowing for predictive actions and analytics. Assisting reduces overall costs, increases productivity and eases the implementation of our programs.

Transforming provides customers with prescriptive insights, including artificial intelligence and machine learning for self-optimizing processes, which helps improve quality, safety, productivity and profitability across processes. Transforming is currently still in development and pilots are running to confirm the proof of concept. Our vision is that a significant step forwards will have been realized by 2025.

Additional Online Services: millSMART ONLINE

Our millSMART ONLINE application is an effective dashboard that allows customers to see the added value of the millSMART program in real-time. Applicator sensor data is pushed through the industrial IoT gateway via an end-to-end secured protocol to the platform, where it is validated, aggregated and stored. Key performance indicators for millSMART, which are based on system and process data, are visualized in smart dashboards.
