The horticultural oil spider Mite Control Solution for commercial farmers and growers

TetraCURB™ Concentrate is a tool available to farmers who seek a pesticide derived from a natural source to control and prevent pests and produce healthy and sustainably-grown crops.

What are Spider Mites on plants?

Spider mites are a major concern for the agriculture industry. In a short period, these pests can cause severe harm to entire crops—compromising a grower’s productivity and profit. Spider mites are typically found on the underside of plant leaves, using plant cell material as their food source. Their presence can be identified under a 10x magnifying lens, and if a mite infestation is left uncontrolled, plants will become covered with fine white webbing and have visible damage on the leaves. To maintain healthy crops and manage mite pressure, growers must be vigilant in scouting for spider mites. If a mite infestation is detected, it is critical growers act quickly and have a well-prepared pest management plan.

Spider Mites

Spider Mite Resistance to Pesticides

As one of the highest-ranking greenhouse and field pests, spider mites, including two-spotted spider mites, not only cause irreparable damage but are also resistant to an increasing number of pesticides. To help prevent the development of pesticide resistance, growers need more targeted pesticide solutions with novel modes of action to rotate into their Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.

How to Get Rid of Spider Mites Naturally?

Beyond traditional synthetic pesticides, growers should consider horticultural rosemary oil-based biopesticide as miticide treatment for greenhouses and other commercial agriculture operations. Used in rotation in an IPM program, they can help get pest-free systems and mitigate pesticide resistance. Plus, they are a safe, sustainable and economical alternative to synthetic pesticides. For centuries, rosemary oil has been used as a natural insecticide. Kemin Crop Technologies harnessed mother nature to design TetraCURB Concentrate, a rosemary oil-based smart blend biopesticide to help growers kill and repel spider mites.

TetraCURB™ Concentrate: Designed for Growers by Growers

Rosemary oil-Based Crop Protection Solutions

TetraCURB™ Concentrate is a rosemary oil-based contact miticide designed to help growers keep plants, crops and profits healthy. The smart blend of ingredients is safe, environmentally friendly and an effective biopesticide that allows growers to both kill and repel spider mites on all crops. The active ingredient in TetraCURB Concentrate is a high concentration of rosemary oil - fifty percent active rosemary oil in the concentrate. Unlike most commodity horticultural oils, such as neem or mineral oils, our rosemary oil is a food-grade oil extracted from our proprietary lines of rosemary plants that are rich in targeted active molecules providing a variety of benefits. To ensure a consistent molecular profile of the active ingredient, high-quality rosemary oil supply, we use a vertically integrated supply chain and grow 1,200 acres of SCS Sustainably Grown Certified rosemary in the United States. Using our experience as specialty crop growers, we took great care to design TetraCURB Concentrate as easy to use and compatible with regulatory requirements.

Mode of Action

TetraCURB Concentrate is a Smart Blend for Full Spider Mite Control

Leveraging our understanding of plant science and pest management, the TetraCURB Concentrate smart blend formulation acts through multiple modes of action to target mites in the adult and nymph stages of the pest life cycle. The multiple modes of action target mites through consistent application resulting in quick knockdown and high mortality.

Multiple Modes of Action

  1. The rosemary oil targets the octopamine receptor in mites to disrupt their nervous system, causing avoidance behavior, paralysis, and suffocation.
  2. The emulsifier allows for uniform product contact across the plant surface. This provides maximum product efficacy of the action with minimum phytotoxicity.
  3. The soap disrupts cuticular waxes of the insect allowing rosemary oil to quickly penetrate and induce water loss in mites, resulting in desiccation and death.

TetraCURB Concentrate Helps Growers Overcome Spider Mite Resistance

Because the TetraCURB Concentrate smart blend provides unique modes of action, it is more difficult for spider mites to develop pesticide resistance. Our crop protection solution is an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic pesticides, TetraCURB Concentrate can be used in an IPM program to help kill spider mites and mitigate pesticide resistance. For good pesticide resistance management practices growers should spray five to seven days apart, for two to three cycles, and then alternate to a pesticide with a different mode of action.

DIRECTION FOR USE

Read the product label for the complete guideline.

APPLICATION RATES

If using TetraCURB as part of an IPM program, there are multiple application rates and frequencies, depending on the level of infestation.

  • Preventative to low infestation: Lower rate of 32 fl. oz. /100 gallons of water (0.25%)
  • Moderate to heavy infestation: Higher rates of 64 - 128 - 256 fl. oz. /100 gallons of water. (0.5%, 1%, 2%).

APPLICATION TIMING

  • Growers can spray TetraCURB Concentrate at any time during the growing season, but we recommend applying the product at the beginning of a crop cycle
  • Apply when mites first appear and before the economic threshold is reached
  • Apply in early morning or late afternoon when the temperature is below 90 oF
  • For best results, use in an IPM program with a minimum of 2-3 applications over 2 weeks.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

Shake well before using. TetraCURB Concentrate is a liquid emulsifiable concentrate and must be diluted with water before using. Use dilution immediately. Do not store diluted solution.

Before mixing and applying TetraCURB Concentrate, thoroughly clean the tank and spray equipment. Spray boom and all nozzles. For best results:

  1. Fill half of a clean tank with clean water and start tank agitation system
  2. Add the appropriate dosage of TetraCURB Concentrate to tank, while continuing constant agitation
  3. Fill the tank with the remaining amount of needed water
  4. Mix to obtain a homogenous mixture. Maintain agitation until solution is used.

Compatibility of spray mixture (tank mixes): Limited compatibility testing has been conducted for TetraCURB Concentrate with other commonly used chemistries. As such, tank mixing or use of TetraCURB Concentrate with any other product shall be the exclusive risk and responsibility of the user. If you plan to mix TetraCURB Concentrate with other products, always check the physical compatibility first by performing a compatibility test. Test the mixture on a small scale before making large-scale applications. Consult specific product labels for additional information.

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS

  • Spray application: Use TetraCURB Concentrate as a foliar spray. Spray the mixture thoroughly to the top and the underside surfaces of all leaves to ensure complete and uniform coverage until runoff.  Apply TetraCURB Concentrate using traditional spray equipment such as, but not limited to, high volume sprayers, booms and hydraulic-air assist equipment.
  • Dip application: Make appropriate dilution and amount of TetraCURB to fill container that allows for full submersion of clippings to be treated.  The suggested dip rates are 32-64 fl. oz. /100 gallons of water. Fresh TetraCURB solution should be prepared for every 3000 clippings. The TetraCURB diluted solution should be used immediately and not stored. Submerge clippings completely (30-120 sec) and provide gentle agitation to ensure complete coverage. Remove the clippings from the solution and allow excess solution to drain as needed.
  • With beneficial insects: If a grower is working with beneficial insects, our team of experts can help develop a customized IPM program.

CROP SAFETY – PHYTOTOXICITY

Due to the ever-changing varieties of plants, testing on all plants and crop varieties is not feasible. To ensure that TetraCURB Concentrate is compatible with the array of cultivars under your specific conditions, test the product on a small scale and observe for phytotoxicity before making large-scale applications. Do not apply to plants or crops when the temperature is 90º F or above.
