Jennie Smith is the Sales Manager of Crop Technologies at Kemin Industries and the Proprietor of Butcher Crick Farms, LLC in Carlisle, Iowa. She is a graduate of Iowa State University (BLS, 2006) and Massey University (Graduate Diploma, Rural Agriculture, 2012) and has traveled the world to broaden her understanding of the role of horticulture within both local and global food systems.
In 2009, Jennie traveled to Taiwan to research organic horticulture as part of a Rotary Group Study Exchange and was then selected to be an Ambassadorial Scholar with Rotary International. In 2012 she traveled to New Zealand to attend Massey University, the highest-ranked agriculture program in New Zealand and top 20 of world university rankings for Agriculture & Forestry according to QS World University Rankings. Her graduate studies included a focus on global food systems and high value horticulture.
After returning home to Iowa, she took her robust garden of vegetables and entrepreneurial spirit and created Butcher Crick Farms. It didn’t take long for her to develop a reputation for incredible heirloom tomatoes – selling them, and a few other specialty plants and vegetables, at the Des Moines Farmers Market and local restaurants.
Today, in her role as Sales Manager of Crop Technologies, she helps others improve their growing operations using Kemin best practices, specialty chemicals and plant-based solutions.
Technical Services Manager,
Crop Technologies Division
Vincent Livengood is the Technical Services Manager for Crop Technologies at Kemin Industries and a professional horticulturist with an incredibly diverse background. He graduated from Iowa State University (BS, Horticulture 1992) and immediately became a grower who went on to work in different size and types of growing operations around the United States. He’s done it all from plugs and propagation to finished bedding and pots crops, and been involved in very diverse growing environments. An area of specialty for Vincent is insect and disease management, including biological control plans for spider mites and western flower thrips.
When Kemin Industries made the decision to create the Crop Technologies Division in 2015, with its focus on sharing and providing solutions for the commercial greenhouse market, they recruited Vincent and his 20+ years of experience to lead the way.
Vincent is responsible for sharing his expertise and insights with both new growers and seasoned professionals, who are looking to solve challenging problems, better manage their operations and increase profitability by providing healthier, safer and more effective growing conditions. In addition to his insect and disease management expertise, he also has extensive knowledge in irrigation and environmental controls, as well as different types of chemical application techniques.
Vincent’s expertise is available to growers of all sizes and is backed by Kemin’s plant-based formulations, chemical blending and manufacturing.
