Valena™ FLOW  Novel Foliar-Applied Plant Growth Technology

Valena™ FLOW is a novel plant growth technology designed to enhance crop vigor, root development, nutrient uptake, and yield while addresing zinc deficiency.

It is a liquid suspension concentrate that combines a patented 1,3-ß-glucan, extracted from Kemin’s exclusive strain of unicellular microalgae, Euglena gracilis, with zinc micronutrients sourced from zinc oxide.

Valena FLOW is applied as a foliar spray once the first true leaves appear. Applying it early during the plant’s active growth phase helps establish a strong foundation for development, resulting in better quality plants, fruits, and vegetables, and reducing the risk of yield loss.

Valena FLOW Modes of Action - Unlocking Plant Potential Through Smart Signaling

What makes Valena FLOW effective?

  • Zinc oxide is a vital micronutrient necessary for photosynthesis and cellular signaling. The zinc in Valena FLOW is absorbed through the leaves and transported to regions of active growth, where it supports enzymatic activity and helps the plant withstand stress.
  • 1,3 beta-glucan mimics molecules found on the surface of plant pathogens and is recognized as a Pathogen-Associated Molecular Pattern (PAMP). Plants possess a keen ability to detect PAMPs and similar molecules to guard against invasion. Although beta-glucan itself is not a pathogen, it is identified by Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs) on the leaf surface as a PAMP. This recognition initiates a signaling cascade that activates the plant’s innate defense systems and enhancing nutrient absorption.

Together, beta-glucans and zinc form a powerful duo, one that doesn’t just feed the plant, but communicates with it.

Valena FLOW Trials

One of the most exciting aspects of Valena FLOW is its efficacy at low rates. In trials, rates as low as 56 ppm beta-glucan (0.15 L/ha) showed measurable improvements in root biomass and nutrient content. This means growers can achieve meaningful results with less product, reducing input costs. Due to the high sensitivity of plants in recognizing beta-glucan and the resulting signaling, for most crops, even lower rates can be effective.
