Fighting Hunger: Kemin Partners with the World Food Programme

Posted February 03, 2025 by Lauren Burt, Head of Global Corporate Affairs

In late January, representatives from Kemin gathered in Rome, Italy, for their annual partnership meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP), where both organizations reflected on the progress made last year in food safety and quality and outlined new opportunities for 2025 to continue addressing global food insecurity together.

How do food safety and quality guidelines fight hunger?

Each day around the world, 733 million people face hunger. In 2025, an estimated 1.9 million people will be on the brink of famine. As WFP’s first-ever corporate partner in the early 2000s, Kemin played an instrumental role in helping WFP establish its Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) division. The division ensures that the food delivered to millions of people worldwide meets the highest safety and quality standards, a critical component in the fight against hunger and famine.

Due to Kemin’s support, two of our full-time food scientists in Belgium are dedicated to working with WFP to assess packaging, food safety, and nutritional value and assist WFP in a crisis. They will continue to work closely with WFP in 2025 to advance solutions to combat malnutrition.

What areas of the world are served by the World Food Programme’s efforts?

From Yemen to South Sudan to Gaza, Kemin’s products with the WFP have fed people in the most horrific situations all around the world. The food must be nutritious, easy to consume, and have high-quality packaging since it’s often airdropped into war zones, and it must be shelf stable, especially in areas where electricity is scarce. Kemin is dedicated to supporting WFP's mission to bring life-saving relief in emergencies and use food assistance to build peace, stability, and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change.
