The Evolution of Women’s Health Supplements: What’s Next?

The women’s health supplement market is entering a pivotal moment. Once viewed as a niche category centered primarily on maternal and gynecological needs, it is now being reshaped by women who expect — and deserve — broader, more relevant support across every stage of life.¹ At Kemin, we are committed to leading this evolution with science‑backed ingredient solutions that reflect the real health priorities of women today.

Women represent half of the global population and drive 80% of consumer healthcare purchasing decisions, making them one of the most influential forces in the wellness economy.¹ Yet despite this influence, only 7% of all supplements launched between 2022 and 2025 were designed specifically for women — and 55% of those focused narrowly on pregnancy, breastfeeding, or sexual health.² This leaves a significant gap between what women need and what the market currently provides.

At the same time, the top health areas women want to improve over the next year include general wellness, stress, mental health, immune support, and digestive health.³ The category’s traditional focus simply does not reflect the full spectrum of women’s lived experiences or health aspirations.

Women are also turning to vitamin, mineral, and supplement (VMS) products for far more than reproductive milestones. In fact, 59% of women say they are likely to seek VMS support for health concerns outside of pregnancy and menopause.⁴ This underscores a clear reliance on supplementation to navigate daily demands, lifestyle transitions, and long‑term wellbeing — and highlights how underserved they remain.

At Kemin, we design our ingredients to meet these diverse needs. We listen closely to what women are asking for and develop solutions that support eye health, cognitive performance, stress management, and overall wellness, among other areas. Our goal is simple: to help close the gap between women’s health needs and the products available to them.

Addressing the Women’s Health Paradoxes

Throughout this series, we have explored three interconnected paradoxes shaping the current state of women’s health:

  • The Scientific Paradox — Women remain underrepresented in research, limiting the evidence base for their care.

  • The Market Paradox — Despite their purchasing power, women are underserved by supplement innovation.

These paradoxes reveal a category full of challenges — but also full of opportunity. Women’s health is entering a moment of momentum, driven by consumers who are demanding more from the brands they trust.

Success in this space requires collaboration with partners who share a vision for a more inclusive, science‑driven future. Kemin is committed to being that partner. We prioritize women in every aspect of our business, from research and product development to market insights and innovation strategy. We continue to explore the complexities of women’s health, challenge outdated assumptions, and advocate for a holistic approach that supports women as individuals — not as a single demographic segment.

A Call to Innovate Together

The women’s health market is ready for redefinition. The brands that will lead this next chapter are those willing to expand beyond traditional boundaries and create products that reflect the full diversity of women’s needs.

We invite women’s health supplement manufacturers to partner with us in shaping this future. Together, we can develop solutions that empower women to take control of their health and wellness — not just during key life stages, but every day.
