More Efficient Supply Chain Thanks to Local Food Safety Product Line

Kemin Food Technologies EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) in Herentals, Belgium has enabled a local food safety product line to ensure a more sustainable supply of its vinegar-based products. Previously these products were imported from the United States. And now, for the first time, the production of BactoCEASE® NV will take place in Europe. The introduction of this locally produced food safety product will allow for more supply chain efficiency and increases the impact of Kemin’s vision by distributing its products in a more sustainable way.

The additional European production capacity of BactoCEASE NV ensures a more efficient supply chain for our customers in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. “Behind the scenes a global supply chain team has been working to streamline the entire process as it became clear that shipping our products from the United States was not the most efficient,” said Erwin Weerts, Operations & Regulatory Affairs Manager, Kemin Food Technologies – EMEA. “Now, as a company, we can handle both our supply chain and production schedule locally. This strategic investment is intended to help ensure continuity and security of our food safety product lines, resulting in a shorter supply chain and delivery time for our customers. This enhanced supply assurance allows us to meet growing customer demand while driving the innovation of new clean-label solutions.”

Cost efficient and sustainable

The introduction of these local supply lines was a critical milestone to enhance our business as earlier this year, Kemin launched two new clean-label food safety solutions, NaturCEASE™ DRY and BactoCEASE NV OR Liquid, to meet customer demands in the protein market. NaturCEASE DRY is an all-in-one solution consisting of buffered vinegar and plant extracts. BactoCEASE NV OR Liquid offers an organic food safety solution for meat, poultry and fish and extends shelf life by controlling the growth of spoilage bacteria without negatively impacting the finished product’s texture or flavour.

As an international enterprise, Kemin strives to sustainably transform the quality of life every day for 80 percent of the world with its products and services. “Kemin is a global company with an international supply chain team but we must also act and think locally,” said Valter Dompè, President, Kemin Food Technologies – EMEA. “In order to provide our customers with the best customer service and fast delivery times, we’ve taken matters in our own hands. Another decisive argument is the fact that local production lines and distribution have a lower environmental impact. Sustainability is incorporated in Kemin’s vision for the future.”

Increased demand for clean-label solutions

Food safety is of paramount importance and companies are increasingly investing in durable options. “The clean-label trend in the meat, poultry and fish market is driving our growth based on demand,” Valter Dompè continues. “And our new products NaturCEASE DRY and BactoCEASE NV OR Liquid, have already made their mark on the food market. We definitely see an increased interest in our products. We launched our BactoCEASE NV product line several years ago initially for the processed meat market. Meanwhile we also cover the fish market which today is of equal importance to our business. Also, for prepared salads and dips, our product is an effective solution. Our vinegar-based products are a sustainable food safety option for customers and will continue to position Kemin as a leading provider of shelf life and food safety ingredients. Over the years we have seen a very strong growth and look even brighter to the future.”
