Hi, my name is Alberto. I joined Kemin Food Technologies in 2021 as Technical Sales Manager for Spain and Portugal. But my passion for innovation as a food technologist stretches back much further. I’ve spent the past 10 years in various roles in both fundamental and applied research and new product development. And it’s this passion for technological, professional and personal advancement that I hope to bring to my new role at Kemin.

Can you tell us more about your job at Kemin? What does it involve? 

My overarching goal is to support the food industry here in Iberia to develop safer and more sustainable products with a longer shelf life and higher consumer satisfaction. It’s as simple – and as complicated – as that. <smiles> Of course, providing the level of technical assistance required to find and implement the right solution demands a lot more than that. You need a thorough understanding of the product itself but also the customer’s process. So, you can design a solution that adds value to the whole chain. From product development and testing to scale-up and full implementation. It’s this close collaboration with our customers that makes the job so rewarding. With a different challenge to tackle almost every day. 

 

Kemin is a huge global company, with a local approach. What do you like best about your employer?

I love working in a team and being able to draw on such a diverse range of talent and expertise. But what I value most is the trust and autonomy I receive from my manager and the team as a whole. That gives me a great deal of freedom to make judgement calls on the fly and the confidence to propose new ideas and new ways of working. 

 

Do you already have a favorite Kemin segment or product?

I’m very inspired by what’s going on in our meat and fish segments today. But picking a favorite product is an impossible task. With so many different applications harnessing the power of natural compounds. It’s a constant source of inspiration for me to see just how well we can safeguard food quality and safety using all-natural solutions. Because that is the future! And we’re putting it into practice every day. 

 

What particular challenges do you face in your daily work? 

What makes my job particularly challenging is also what makes it so satisfying: every single product has its own unique properties and quality parameters. Which means that every single solution has to combine both technological expertise and creative insight. So the approach can be tailored to the specific constraints of the project. It keeps you on your toes and ensures that in our line of work, you never stop learning. 

 

What about outside of work? How do you like to spend your time?

I enjoy going for walks in the countryside, all year round. I’m blessed with many beautiful spots near where I live. And I love seeing the change of seasons. In summer, I often go swimming, diving or fishing. And when at home, I spend a lot of my time in the kitchen, challenging myself with new recipes every week.
