NutriCABTM

Kemin’s Answer to Reducing Metabolic Disorders in Cows

A low concentration of blood calcium in cows around calving can trigger negative effects such as reduced dry matter intake, decreased milk yield, and increased metabolic diseases.

At Kemin, we believe in solving these challenges by boosting your cow’s health 21 days before calving. We do so through acidogenic diets that provide cows with increased amounts of calcium leading to sound metabolic health and improved milk yield after calving.

Our NutriCAB provides the highest concentration (>80%) of calcium chloride in encapsulated form. This form masks the bitterness of anionic salt during intake, prevents feed refusal, controls hygroscopicity during application and storage, ensures skin safety while handling, and improves metabolic health for improved and overall cow performance.

NutriCAB

A recent study in Germany (Venjakob et al., 2017) has shown a high prevalence of subclinical hypocalcemia (decreased blood calcium below normal level) in multiparous cows. Cows suffered from subclinical hypocalcemia (47.6%) and clinical milk fever (8.6%) as a result of the diets.

Additionally, 42 randomized trials (Santos et al., 2019 ) suggested that cows with cationic diets are more likely to suffer increased incidences of milk fever or hypocalcemia.

Based on the ingredients used in cow diets, most of the diets in the EMENA (Europe, Middle East, and North Africa) region are cationic in nature as most ingredients are cationic.

Therefore, using anionic or acidogenic diets promotes a more acidic metabolic state (lower blood pH) resulting in lower incidences of subclinical hypocalcemia and milk fever.

NutriCAB is Kemin’s uniquely encapsulated source of calcium chloride. Our exclusive encapsulated technology is called ‘Pan Coating’ and has been specially designed by Kemin for coating hygroscopic material such as calcium chloride.

NutriCAB is particularly effective because of its high concentration (>80%) of calcium chloride presented in an encapsulated form. The encapsulation masks the bitterness of anionic salt during intake, prevents feed refusal, controls hygroscopicity during application and storage, ensures skin safety while handling, and improves metabolic health for overall improved cow performance.

More specifically, NutriCAB helps reduce metritis by 82.1%, mastitis by 53%, displaced abomasum by 80%, and retained fetal membranes by 81% — as shown in studies on different farms.

It is evident that using NutriCAB means a reduction in metabolic disorders helping cows improve lactation by reaching the peak of milk yield in early lactation. The main advantage of NutriCAB technology is that you invest in 21 days during the pre-calving period and reap the results during the 305 days of the lactation cycle.

Key Economic Benefits of NutriCAB

  • 21-day investment for 305 days of profit;
  • Economic return from improved milk yield: 5:1;
  • Economic return from reduced metabolic disorders: €50-100/cow.

Benefits

  • Results in 3 weeks;
  • Palatable thanks to coating technology;
  • Improves cow performance by reducing metabolic disorders.

Advantages of NutriCAB

  • Easy control of application (urinary pH);
  • Non-hygroscopic — easy storage and application;
  • Ensure skin safety;
  • Highest DCAD value (-13800 mEq/kg) in coated form.
