Is there science inside the Kemin laboratories? Yes.
In our products? Yes.
Is Kemin making scientific advancements and unlocking discoveries? We think so.
Kemin is the science inside products and services that touch more than 3.8 billion people every day. Kemin develops and produces more than 500 specialty ingredients for humans, animals, foods, crops, and textiles.
The hot dog or corndog you might be eating at a state fair—perhaps the Iowa State Fair, if you’re in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S., where Kemin’s global headquarters is located — may have been kept fresh and safe with Kemin’s help. Or, if you prefer porkchop on a stick, a famous choice at the Iowa State Fair, you’ll probably appreciate Kemin strengthening safety throughout the food chain by improving the nutrition and health of poultry and livestock.
If you’ve taken a vitamin for eye health or vision care, it may have contained Kemin’s lutein and zeaxanthin. Your pet’s food probably has antioxidants from Kemin in it, too. If you’ve bought flowers or plants from a commercial greenhouse, Kemin may have contributed to your bright blooms. Kemin may also be keeping you stylish by providing the chemicals that give your denim its distressed look.
Kemin’s reaching a lot of people—half the world’s population—in a lot of different industries. We want to have a positive impact on each person and the planet. It’s our goal to improve the quality of life for the world’s growing population.
Improving the quality of life isn’t just our global vision, it extends beyond our ingredients and it applies far beyond our lab benches and office walls.
We partner with World Food Programme (WFP), the largest humanitarian agency of the United Nations that focuses on fighting hunger globally, to tackle food insecurity and better the quality and safety of the worldwide food supply chain. During our decade-plus partnership with WFP, Kemin has played a key role in developing and implementing its Food Safety Quality Management System and Quality Culture.
Since 1990, we’ve been a partner of The World Food Prize, founded by Nobel Prize winner Norman Borlaug and headquartered in our hometown, Des Moines, Iowa, U.S. The organization honors the exceptional individuals who have made vital contributions toward the improvement of food quality, quantity, and availability throughout the world.
Feeding the world requires sustainable methods of production and responsibility for our impact on the environment. The Kemin Specialty Crop Improvement (SCI) plant science program extracts molecules from scientifically advanced oregano, rosemary, spearmint, potato, and marigold. These renewably created molecules are then formulated into the ingredients we produce.
Kemin partners with skilled and dedicated expert growers and family farmers across the globe to yield a consistent and reliable source of our specialty botanicals. Our rosemary and spearmint, both grown in the U.S., are certified sustainably grown by SCS Global Services. These botanicals are used in numerous Kemin products. You’ll find them in in the plant-based extracts, antioxidants, and antimicrobials we provide to preserve shelf-life, food safety, flavor and color, and in many other Kemin ingredients.
We’re working to make a difference outside of Kemin—for people, animals, and the environment. By being the science inside countless products that serve billions of people, we’re helping make the world a better place. We know that it’s what’s inside that counts, and at Kemin, we’re happy to be the science inside.
