Kemin is launching a new customer service tool to better assess the oxidative quality and nutritional value of oils and fats in feed. The Lipid Evaluation Test provides nutritionists with accurate lipid profiles containing the apparent metabolizable energy (AME) values, oxidative status and to standardize variations of oils and fats in animal nutrition.

The LET is a tool for better assessment of the oxidative quality and nutritional value of fats and oils commonly used in feed for monogastric animals.

The LET is based on the application of analytical data (FFA, U/S ratio) through the Wiseman equation, and subsequent calculation of AMEn (poultry) and DE (pigs) including the diluting factors (MIU).

Oils and fats are critical ingredients in feed formulations due to their high energy-yielding potential. However, like many raw materials, these lipids come from a wide variety of sources and are prone to large variations in their nutritive value. “Traditionally, nutritionists analysed oils and fats using the standard energy value, which our researchers have found to be quite different from the actual values. With the help of Lipid Evaluation Test, nutritionists can formulate feed with more accurate lipid nutrient values and to get more standard and reliable performances.

Numerous analyses performed by Kemin scientists have found that up to 30 percent variations in AME values of single oil.

 Reducing Variability

It is possible to alleviate the effect of fats and oils variability by means of a more precise AME evaluation, a precise analysis of lipids oxidative status and finally, increasing the digestibility and absorption rate of fats and oils by the addition of LYSOFORTE to the feed.

A bio-surfactant derived from a natural source, such as LYSOFORTE, has the ability to reduce these differences and enhance the utilisation of energy from oils and fats therefore, leading to improved feed conversion ratios and consequently, lower production costs.
