A Visual Proof
A test was developed based on the fact that butyrate salts (sodium and calcium butyrates) are water soluble and have an alkaline pH. This test involves the use of a pH indicator to capture the color change in the test solution.
How It Works
- This test solution is affected by the rate of release of butyrate salts.
- A quick change in the color of the test solution from BRIGHT ORANGE TO PURLPLE (the color shade in the kit may change depending on the concentration used for the pH indicator) indicates a rapid release of butyrate from the sample.
How To Interpret The Results
The less protected the butyrate is, the faster the solution will change its color.
