Gut Health Solution Available to Swine Producers in Europe
Authorization of CLOSTAT® for sows published in Official Journal of EU
HERENTALS, Belgium (December 21, 2017) – Kemin, a global nutritional ingredient company that uses science to touch 3.8 billion people every day with its products and services, has received authorization from the European Commission for use of Bacillus subtilis PB6 (CLOSTAT®) in sows, effective Friday, December 29.
“Since its first registration, CLOSTAT has been widely used to manage gut health in poultry,” said Susanne Kirwan, Gut Health Product Manager for Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health, Europe. “The expanded registration provides a viable alternative for swine producers looking to reduce antibiotics while maintaining piglet health from birth to weaning.”
The patented strain of Bacillus subtilis can be used in sows starting at three weeks before farrowing throughout the whole lactation period. Piglets may also derive a benefit from the sow receiving the feed additive. The official authorization has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
