Social Responsibility at Kemin
Kemin is dedicated to building a better future through our commitment to charitable giving, non-profit partnership and service activities in communities around the globe.
The absolute heart of our charitable ethics began with our founders, R.W. and Mary Nelson. Their strong sense of responsibility to the global community is honored and continued as Kemin grows and becomes increasingly involved with meaningful causes in the communities we serve.
Our Charitable Involvements
At Kemin, we center our charitable giving and community outreach initiatives around four key areas:
- Science and general education
- Affordable housing
- Disaster relief
- Creating vibrant communities
As a socially responsible company with community sponsorship opportunities, Kemin works closely with a variety of organizations, including, but not limited to the organizations listed below.
Habitat for Humanity Corporate Partner
After a devastating earthquake in Nepal that impacted a Kemin employee, team members around the globe donated money to support victims of the tragedy. Through employee donations and a Kemin corporate match, we sent $90,000 to assist Habitat for Humanity with relief efforts. In 2016, Kemin sent 40 employees to the Kavrepalanchok District of Nepal to take part in the relief effort in direct partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Nepal.
World Food Programme Corporate Partner
As a World Food Programme (WFP) corporate partner, we work to improve the quality and safety of the worldwide food supply chain. World Food Programme is one of the world's leading humanitarian agencies fighting hunger worldwide. The organization’s programs reach some 80 million people in 80 countries each year with food assistance in emergencies and programs that help communities improve nutrition and build resilience.
In 2017, we formally extended our partnership with World Food Programme and have agreed to donate additional services to help achieve Zero Hunger, including laboratory analysis in Belgium and expertise in quality management from the U.S.
As an initiative of World Food Day 2017, Kemin employees participated in the World Food Programme’s ShareTheMeal campaign. The initiative encouraged employees to personally donate and help build awareness around Zero Hunger goals.
As one of World Food Programme’s first corporate partners, we’ve worked together for more than a decade to assist with complex and evolving food quality and safety strategy. We have provided critical assistance in developing and implementing a Food Safety Quality Management System and Quality Culture within the organization.
The World Food Prize
Kemin has been an active partner with The World Food Prize since 1990. Founded by Nobel Peace Prize Winner Norman Borlaug and headquartered in Des Moines, The World Food Prize honors outstanding individuals who have made vital contributions to improving the quality, quantity or availability of food throughout the world. Together, Kemin and The World Food Prize work to alleviate hunger around the world and draw attention and resources to the challenges facing food security worldwide.

The Kemin Vision
At Kemin, change is a way of life, a core value of our company. That’s especially important today as the scale and pace of change throughout the world is accelerating exponentially.
Global population is estimated to reach 9 billion people by 2050. This expanded global population will consume 2/3 more animal protein than it does today, which is being driven by income growth around the world.
These changes, and many others, will mark incredible change in what you – our customers, partners, and stakeholders – need as we work together to help improve the daily lives of people around the globe.
