The growth of mould and microbes (e.g., fungi and wild yeast) can drastically affect the quality of forage.

When crops are harvested with an ideal moisture concentration, silage inoculants can help to enhance fermentation. Excessive microbial growth can cause increased dry matter loss and heating of forage, which reduce dry matter and crude protein digestibility. The Role Kem LAC™ HD Dry Plays in Forage Management & Silage Fermentation

Kemin developed Kem LAC™ HD Dry, a water-soluble mixture of three lactic acid-producing organisms that can be used in a wide variety of forages chopped for ensiling. This high-density (HD) inoculant blend provides more bacteria per gram than other products available on the market and can help speed silage fermentation drastically.

How Kem LAC™ HD Dry works

By producing a high level of lactic acid, the use of Kem LAC™ HD quickly lowers silage pH and aids in preservation of the crop. Kem LAC™ HD works in a wide variety of forages including maize, wheat, sorghum and lucerne silage to help reduce dry matter loss and preserve nutrient availability. Kem LAC™ HD also controls silage temperatures from within the silo, while helping to reduce dry matter loss and shrinkage.
