Deadly hospital outbreaks of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD) have been blamed on an emerging, lethal strain of Clostridium difficile. As with antibiotic associated diarrhea (AAD), CDAD often stems from antibiotics-related pathogen overgrowth in the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, travel, stress and other factors can disrupt good digestive and gastrointestinal health.

In response, Kemin has developed a proprietary product, Bacillus subtilis Strain PB6. As a safe probiotic marketed under the brand name Anaeban™, Bacillus subtilis Strain PB6 is intended to promote the growth and activity of health-stimulating bacteria in the intestinal tract. Anaeban is of benefit for the gastrointestinal and digestive health issues that may be associated with antibiotic usage, travel and stress. At a higher dosage, Bacillus subtilis Strain PB6 is intended to be marketed under the brand name Inflammaban™. Inflammaban™ is currently under research and development for indications that include ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome, as well as AAD and CDAD.
