OVERALL FUNCTION: The Staff Scientist is responsible for the innovation, development, testing, and scale-up of palatant/flavor products for companion animals. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:- Ph.D. in biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, animal science or similar field with 3 years of broad experience in developing new technologies; OR
- Masters degree in science with 10 years or more of experience; OR
- Bachelors degree with 15 years experience.
- Background in flavor enhancement/palatant research for human and/or pet food required.
- Practical knowledge of stage-gate processes is desired.
- Excellent scientific skills in experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a minimal English proficiency level of Intermediate High as defined in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
- The successful candidate will be detail oriented, highly organized and motivated by accomplishment.
- Project management skills, including forecasting skills, project planning, and development of project timelines.
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Advanced PC knowledge, MS Office and statistical analysis.
- Good organizational and prioritization skills.
- Reliable and self-motivated.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:- Development of new reactions, flavor ingredients, and products critical to the pet food business
- Direct palatability testing of ingredients/products with both scientific value and claims substantiation as focuses.
- Develop and implement new methods or processes for analysis, application, or production of new and existing flavor ingredients and products
- Interact with regulatory affairs and quality assurance both internally and externally to assure the timely exchange of information for registrations and regulatory approvals.
- Provide budgetary management and planning for activities.
- Assist in the preparation of patents and other IP decisions
- Foster an environment of open communication and creativity
