OVERALL FUNCTION :
As a member of the R&D management team you will supervise a group of research associates.
You will be responsible for the Customer Lab Support (CLS) Section, the lab services that Kemin offers to its customers.  In this role you are the interface between the lab and our Sales force/customers.  You will propose trials to solve the questions of the customer, follow-up the lab work and report the results.
You will also be actively engaged in many challenging stages of a product life cycle going from first conception of an idea to providing technical assistance to our customers.
Your creative scientific expertise will be required to support the process of new product development. It is your task to balance the applied research with more fundamental work that is required to gain more insight in the activity of our products at a molecular level.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage a section of the R&D team and its budget
• Coordination and follow-through of CLS-projects
• Support the Sales Force: give advice on the scientific set-up of projects (selection of suitable analyses, how to sample, interpret data)
• Collaboration with the Marketing Department on larger CLS projects)
• Develop research projects that are required to support questions from the field
• Translate CLS data in scientific or commercial papers, in collaboration with the technical Service Manager of the product Group.
• Coordination of field trials and ring trials
• monitoring and reporting of CLS activities to management
• Research and new product development in the field of animal health and performance
• Assess and implement new technologies, processes, analytical methods, and practices
• Guide colleagues in designing experiments, interpreting results and solving analytical problems.
• Alignment of research with the other worldwide AgriFoods research groups by regular interaction.
• Internal and external communication of results via scientific papers, conferences and seminars.
• Assist the Marketing Department in the process of product innovation, the launch of new products and preparation of technical literature
• Provide technical support to major international customers

These responsibilities require a reasonable amount of international travel.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :
• PhD in sciences or applied biological sciences
• Relevant research experience in the fields of animal nutrition and physiology is a plus
• Project management skills, including project planning, and development of project timelines
• Experience in leading a team of scientists
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
• Ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels of management within a team environment
